15" Potter and Johnston Shaper
« on: January 04, 2020, 10:43:14 PM »
I'm not exactly sure what void shapers fill, but I've filled it a little more. I had swore off getting any more machines, but this was too close and too easy of a trade deal to make.

Sold a surface grinder out of my storage container to make room for it. Had a horrible day in the rain on Tuesday delivering the grinder. The guy got in a hurry unloading it and dumped it over. That really hurt me, but it was something out of my hands. This machine went a lot smoother. Made a new friend out of the deal and had a nice break in the rain to haul it home. Loaded it like the Egyptians with pipe rollers and a chain winch; no problems. It's probably 1500-1750 lbs.

Quite an old machine, most likely dating from right at the turn of the 20th century. It has a couple features generally found on much larger machines. A rotating table for angled surfaces and power feed on the tool head for cutting down faces without babysitting the machine. Hopefully GT's home for wayward machines is not going to take any new residents for a while.

Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

The picture doesn't show the giant pile o junk I had to pull out to find that bit of room. It's packed to within 1" of the door now.

That fit just fine in the box. Like the forklift boom also. I rarely use my boom but a lifesaver when it's needed.

Very nice find, although i'm not very familiar with the company that produced it. Where they a mid-western manufacturing company?

I guess it's a foregone conclusion that anybody invited to your future estate sale has to bring a forklift and large flatbed truck - with a pocket book to match! :))

If your estate liquidation doesn't require heavy rigging, you didn't buy enough tools...  :D

Steve, you're already doing research work for being the next owner.
