Tapatalk isn’t letting me search the forum so I will assume there’s been no discussion of the vise being sold by Fireball Tools. If you don’t know about Fireball tools or the vise I speak of, there are 3 videos you might like to see. In this first one, Jason builds a swivel bench vise from scratch.
In this second video, he does a heads up comparison of several vises including the one he made. In the final test, he torques them until they break.
They are now manufacturing and selling a larger version of the vise in the first video. The small version he made measured over 16,000 lbs of pressure without a cheater bar which was twice as much as any other vise he tested. It measured over 40,000 lbs of pressure in the “test to failure” part of the video.
Here’s a video where he discusses the differences between the prototype and the production version.
For further enjoyment, here’s a video where he took the Prentice vise that he broke in the first video and he repaired it and modified it to eliminate the weak aspects of its design. I think you’ll like the results.
Here’s another video where he made an attachment for his bench that lets him tilt the vise.
Why didn’t someone do this sooner? Oh, the production version of the vise sells for $1,800. It was $1,400 during the presale which ended in October. Fortunately, I got my deposit in on time.
