Vintage Sears Craftsman Metal Tool Box - $10 CL AD
« on: March 25, 2019, 01:05:22 PM »
This Craftsman tool box just come up on my local CL.  Is this the real deal or a home décor job ?  I've never seen the woody drawers before. Paint looks crappy too.

It's real -- they had some real "cheesy" looking boxes in the mid-1970s. This one showed up in the 1972-73 catalog, along with a roller stack featuring the same design. Base color was originally a gray/black tone. Truly awful looking in my opinion -- YMMV

Plenty of cars with fake wood in that era but never saw a box like that.

Wow, I never knew they had actually done the larger boxes with the fake wood look.  That's got to be pretty rare.  And frightening!  :-\

Absolutely!! Being that the 1960s and 1970's were my formative years I look back on that era as the American ideal. Less government and more personal liberty, but it was also the era of very questionable style and design -- as exemplified in the following pics......LOL

I think SK also made boxes with the wood look. Horrible era for styling.

But, the seventies had some great music!

Goodfellas, besides being a great movie, is a good look at how styles evolved from the mid fifties to 1980.

Saw these pictures somewhere and just knew it had to be a 70's thing, I don't think that wood look is too bad on the little box but the drawer handles ruin it.
Some other kind of drawer handle could have this looking much better.
Always lookin' to learn
