I had this item on the old site several years ago and we never came up with a good answer.  In the first picture it is attached to a 1/2 inch drive ratchet (it is female 1/2 inch drive).  In the second it shows the spiral which is not really sharp, would be hard to cut yourself on it.  The pointed end is somewhat sharp.  It doesn't really look used and is chrome plated.  What do you think??

I'll go first.....

Spring spreader.

Used for widening the opening of a coil spring. You can then insert something into the spring (think spacer), or at the end of a coiled spring, for something to fasten or hook on to it. Think of your key ring, and how tight that is to get a key on. Now upsize that a bit and you'll need a tool or aid for assistance.
