todays estate sale goodies
« on: May 03, 2019, 03:55:14 PM »
I saw an add for an estate sale with " lots" of tools listed. That usually gets my attention. Wondered by today and found a goldmine of Proto goodies. Everything was way overpriced but I just had to pick these up. 3/8 to 1 1/8 missing the 5/8 and 11/16.

Had a  little plumb 1/4 speeder I couldn't leave behind and a degree wheel that I'll give to a kid at work that I'm trying to corrupt. ;D

The 5/8 and 11/16 shouldn't be too hard to find.... I hope. I was super excited to score all of these at one time. I looked around for the other two but didn't see anymore. I'll probably go back tomorrow. its 50% off day ;D

Slip,

There are line wrenches, and then there are PLOMB LINE WRENCHES :-\

Good score.
When my wife leaves me, my dog dies, and they repossess my home, I'll still have my tools.

I went back by yesterday. 50% off day.Looked all over for the absent line wrenches but didn't find them.. I did find a few more jewels and noticed something odd. There were literally 100s of decent craftsman wrenchs for $1 each and sets of sockets on rails for $10is . with no takers on 50% day??? our local Sears closed the first of the year so I guess no-one wants the crafty stuff anymore???

And I found something I need help with. I picked up a Snappy ridge reamer for cheep but its missing the wedge pieces that lock it in the cylinder. Do any of you guys have a reamer for parts or can I get someone to get me a tracing of the wedges and I'll make my own. I'll post a picture of what I need.

Gang,

The last time I used a ridge reamer was in the 1960's or early 1970's.  Still, a good and useful tool though.

Last time I used a ridge reamer was on an MGB block back in 1999. Not much of a call for those old tools anymore, but sure nice to have when you do need one. Unfortunately I can't help you out on this slip knot, I only have older Craftsman versions.

Interesting observation on the Crafty wrenches. Just goes to show the difference in geographic markets. Vintage Craftsman anything (especially wrenches and sockets) are hot sellers at the flea markets and yard sales where I live. People want crazy high prices for their vintage Crafty tools, and they're getting the money. Recently saw a well used 1960s era 1/4" - 1-1/4" raised panel combo set go for over $100 at the local flea market -- crazy!

Are they even usable anymore on these Chinese, designed-to-fail, aluminum block motors they make these days?

Snap-on still makes the ridge reamer so it must be usable on something although it now branded Blue Point. It's $73 and some change though.

People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.
