Cold Blue works OK on small stuff but Elroy would encourage Buck to try the "HOT" method. It works a lot better especially on larger items /
Remember the "Chief" and the snappy ratchet:

BTW: If you decide to try this make sure and wear latex gloves during the entire process so you don't contaminate your project with oil from your hands and ruin the job.

It is a bit addictive. I am taking tools I have had that have looked like crap for decades and once blued, they look like new.

I find the key is in the preparation. I blast and strip all traces of paint, followed by very fastidious cleaning with denatured alcohol followed by application of the bluing solution. Then water wash, dry and repeat the process if you want it darker. Wash and dry again then apply oil liberally to all surfaces.

So far, one $8 bottle at Walmart has blued nine old and tired looking c clamps to like new appearance. I probably have enough left for 1 or 2 more C clamps before running out of the solution.

Yup, very addicted to this. I am having to be aittle careful not to blu some machinist accessories that I might later regret applying that too.

For now, C clamps is what I am limiting this to.

After jumping on the knipex bandwagon, The channies are now considered the cheapos.  :lol_hitting:
I refuse to ever jump on the bandwagon.
I have no reason to dislike the tools, but there are lots of people on the internet ( not you ) who act like you're required to want knipex pliers and you're worthless if you don't buy them.
And that insistent pronounciation correction too.
This is America and in American English it's a knife, not a K'nife.

Anyways I'm a huge Channellock fan, their little snipe nose pliers are very rough and poorly hand ground but otherwise every other pair of Channellock pliers I've ever bought has been great.

Yeah, I watched that Epstein video as well. Another tool to start collecting while they're still out there.

Since discovering gun bluing I've started using it on lots of bare steel projects. I like it.

My pride and joy is a K & E made out of mahogany. I found an appropriate manual, but need to find a proper leather case for it. I've been told by an expert it's worth about $100 with a case. I paid like $6 for it and then $40 for the cursor.

I have done 4 more C clamps with another half dozen in the works. I had not planned to do so many of them, but found these Rusty and half plasti coated ones really cheap since they are so nasty looking. The plasti coat made them appear very undesirable combined with the rust.

I am on the fence on keeping the coating or whittling it all off with a pocket knife. The coating is too thick for bead blast to remove. I might leave the coating since it totally covers both clamping surfaces of the clamps which reduces the damage to whatever the clamps are used on. While not pretty,  I like the purpose the coating serves. I don't know, I will figure out which way I want to go with them. One thing is for sure though, the rust will get blasted off, and the clean steel will be blued!

GENERAL DISCUSSION TO INCLUDE OFF TOPIC / Re: what did you do today?

I know very little about Marx trains. Marx had some great accessories though that play well Lionel size wise. Quality and detail wise, American Flyer was no slouch. I had never even seen Flyer trains until 10-12 years ago. About that time I added a basic vintage AF set that was just stupid cheap.

I really want to setup a layout in my basement incorporating all the O & O-27 stuff, the S gauge stuff, and a massive gauge slot car set that I have been sitting on for some years too.
