Hey r-290 will ALWAYS be around. It works well with 22 metering devices and mineral oil

Rumor has it some hillbillies have discovered the ease of availability for R290.  :-\

We are a bryant dealer. Let me tell ya, the old bryant 550 410a units were rock solid. The owners mother still has one from 01. Just like anything else. If installed properly and maintained they do well.

I was thinking r32 was going to be next, but we got an email from carrier that says hfo refrigerants are next....like the gas in new cars 1234ab?? Something wierd liike that.

From what I understand R1234-yf is the new choice for small systems like cars/refrigerators. R-32 is for residential applications. Same as the R12 vs. R-22 and R134a vs. R-410a compromise.

And R-290 works great in an R-22 system. Just wouldn't want it circulating in my house system if a fire broke out.   >:(

Hey it would be easy to find a leak. No special tools required!  Lol.

But seriously the only thing i would really worry about is the case of compressor failure and the terminals blowing. That would do some major damage.

Yeah, I guess my Halide leak detector is out!  >:(

I wonder how fireman arriving a a serious car crash would handle propane in the A/C?

I dont think propane would be any different than the other flammables in an automobile. If you've ever seen a car fire, its pretty quick. The tires blowing up would be a much bigger hazard than a few lbs of propane.

Not that I would want to put any first responders in danger as my son is one, but a little propane in an ac system wouldn't be the worst they would face

Oh, I would say R718 will be around the longest.
