Title: Snap On KR 59B, 1976
Post by: Lookin4_67GalaxieConv on December 16, 2019, 05:23:03 AM
Picked this up the other day for $40.  This thing is a tank.  Amazing how heavy it is.  This one is pretty straight.  It sat on Offer Up for a long time, I think because people didn't know what it was, though I know a lot of people these days only have eyes for US General boxes.  I'll take one of these any day.   ;D

Yup, that is so heavy because it is a road box.  Built with more reinforcement to withstand riding in a service truck, while loaded with several hundred pounds of tools.  Plus that style of lid helps keep out the dust.  You got a deal.

Yeah, I thought so.  I know most young people would turn their nose up at this box because no ball bearing slides.  I've always been more impressed by quality.

John, were these boxes considered the standard tool chest of auto mechanics back in the day?  Not implying you're old...well, maybe I am.   :))

Color me jealous! Great box and fantastic price.

Full restore, or refurb and use?

A box like this would have been at the high end of a regular mechanic 1970s.  26 inches wide right?  33 inch wide boxes came to be  by the mid 70s, but were pricier and one needed a 33 inch roller too,  even more $$$.  And yes, am on social security, first cash paying mechanic

job in 1969.  Nonpaying jobs in1965.

I would say that you got a heck of a deal on that box. Never would see one for that price around here.

Repaint eventually.  Shouldn't take too long.  Hopefully I'll have some sunrise red left after doing my KR 550.

They're not all together, but I can do a panorama shot when I get a chance.   ;D
