I am assuming you need the reflective tape to put on the pulley or crank to make it work

I have one that looks identical to this on the case at work. It is Extech brand (ordered from MSC). Works fine, but you have to deal with the reflective tape, as you will with any noncontact model.

I`m ok with contact but I suppose it wouldn`t hurt to have both options.
