I think I may be in love with this toolbox
« on: January 06, 2021, 05:24:02 PM »
Apparently this Toyo / Trusco ST-350 is an iconic little toolbox designed in 1969, it's even sold by the museum of modern art of all places  ???
I've never heard of it before,  but im sure you guys know I have a thing for small toolboxes.
I like a box that's just enough for a small kit, and at 8.5h x 13.75w x 6.3"d I'm very interested.
I couldn't find an open and closed picture of the red one, but here it is.

I'm not exactly positive that everything in my 17" hip roof box would really fit , but there are things in it that I could stand to leave out.

The biggest concern is that it costs about $85 and only available direct from Japan.
Everything I hear says it's very well made, I'm definitely thinking about it for sure.

I like boxes like that.
I'm kind of more partial to a top box style with drawers, but this little cantilever seems really well done and I'm just drawn to it for some strange reason.
I would really have to make some tough decisions and cut back to the most essential tools for this box,  so I'm really going to have to go through my house /go box to see what's really necessary.

I was gifted the box by jabber, and considered it a challenge to restore it. It now holds most of my automotive specialty tools.

Coulda fooled me, I thought that was a brand new box.
Great work

The efficiency of these boxes is something I've always been impressed with and that one looks excellent.

The only reason I'm usually partial to a drawer setup is the way they layer tools, they have a good deal of dead space between drawers and are less efficient but they fit my ideas of tool inclusion and organization in a small box / kit.
Something they don't do as well as a cantilever would is the ability to access multiple layers of tools at once, can't really do that much in a box like I prefer.

I've thought about it and believe I could stand to leave these tools out.

These are the most important ones, and I believe they could fit comfortably in one of these little Japanese boxes.

I'm still hesitating a bit due to the price because I just don't truly need it, but I can say that about a lot of things and knowing myself I will probably end up buying it and seeing what happens.
The capacity and capability of the box just may surprise me, I know I'm definitely good at maximizing space and getting the most out of a little box.
I think my party box 1/4 set is a good indication of that.

Couple of weeks ago I was looking at a deal for thirteen Gedore cantilever boxes for $100 until the seller flaked.

That looks like a nice strong box with the waffling. I guess it is a waffle box. ;)

That's exactly where I saw it yesterday.
If being offered by the museum of modern art hasn't made a bunch of trendy Hipster types go crazy for it and bring the price up ( they may have considering the cost ) then i don't think his video will, though he did bring it to my attention so who knows

I'm sure someone out there foolishly said the same about the Snapon party box, but I know full well that this isn't true.
