Title: Oliver no. 153 wood working vise
Post by: Davethorik on April 06, 2019, 11:45:51 AM
I've passed on hundreds of wood vises in the past but this one spoke to me. Probably because of size (65 lbs, 10" jaw, opens 12", OAL 24") and an uncommon maker.

I'd heard of Oliver pattern maker's vises like Emmert, but didn't know they also made larger wood working machines, and even wood benches, let alone smaller wood working vises. From what little I could find they made 2 sizes of this style 7" & 10", both available with or without quick set (mine has it).

So a kind feller at owwm has clued me in that searching by catalog, this vise first appeared in 1910 and was discontinued by 1916. That's awesome! 104 years old!

They are rarer than the pattern makers vises but as to value ???
There was a smaller model on eBay last time I searched. I think it was 69.99 BIN.
