Ordered and received two of these, my old Swingaway and ECK0 can openers from my grandmother were worn out and no longer working very well.

The last American made can opener you can get ( aside from a p-38 /p-51, or on a leatherman...ect ) and they work extremely well, the other will be a gift.

The John J Steuby company purchased the original machinery from the Swingaway factory after they went under, and started making them again.
I love how proud they are to be producing these in America, and the patriotic writing on the packaging is the icing on the cake for me.
Theres more on the back,  I'll have to take a picture.

I have one of those can openers, found it hanging on an endcap at Save-A-Lot of all places. It seems sturdy, I doubt I will ever wear it out.

I have been buying a bunch of vintage stuff here lately. I think this is the only new tool I picked up.

Irwin 1902420 bent needle nose pliers, 6-3/4" long w/ cutter, made in Germany by NWS. The pliers themselves do not have a visible coo but the packaging said Germany.

I've heard good things about the NWS made pliers, I find the modern styling of the grips ugly so I won't be buying them but I'm sure they're a good tool.

I know it's just a tool and I shouldn't care, but if they're just a tool and nobody should care why does this modern styling exist on tools these days anyways ?

Its marketing, everyone wants the new and improved. if you sell a good product that last forever, coming out with new and improved is one way to get people to buy more. If it looked exactly the same as the old one in the tool box, people would be less inclined to buy a new one.

Ron350, thank you. I found this pair on eBay, I dont think Irwin sells them any more. A while back they were clearanced out of Lowe's and could be had very cheap. I usually don't buy Irwin tools but there were 8 or so models they sold that were made by NWS. This is my 3rd pair, and i also have one branded NWS. They are fantastic pliers.

Hickory, i am right there with you man. I don't like trendy, futuristic tool designs. These (like Knipex) are the comfort grip models with the crazy designs on them. I know Knipex has just the plain red plastic grips, NWS i believe does something similar.

I bought a pair of the pistol grip style needlenose Irwin/NWS on clearance at Lowe's for something silly like $8 or so and that is how I got hooked. The Irwins only had the comfort grips, I got them because they were cheap. They aren't bad at all in use, and have some advantages.

NWS pliers are fantastic though, regardless of appearance. I love mine. I just dont have a lot of them.

Muddy, love that matco!!!

I started taking another look at Matco tools a few years ago and I too am liking what I see. If I were still a professional wrencher I'd be buying their tools.   :PDT_Armataz_01_37:

I understand that, it just puts me off but luckily there are options for me.
I could always probably plastidip over the ugly pattern or possibly replace the grips with Klein-koat grips.
