I'll throw in Vegas 5, Ashton Classic, Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real and one of rays favorites Perdomo Champagne  Reserve as good beginner cigars.

Think to look for is a light to medium strength.

Just finished the stuffing, and everything is well on its way for a great dinner this evening. Time for a break and a cigar. This is a very popular ultra-premium cigar. Padron 1926 40th Anniversary in a firm box-pressed size Torpedo. It's a heavy body smoke with aged tobacco and a sweet nuanced wood/earth flavor profile. I know that these are considered pretty high on the flavor scale among many cigar smokers, but for my palate they just don't register very highly. Padron and I just don't mesh very well. It's a good cigar, but not over the top in my view -- sacrilege I know!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It was a good weekend. I got some things on my check list done. The kids made cookies with the in laws.

Rocky Patel cigars are mostly “ho-hum” in my book, but this well aged Martinique TAA 50fh Anniversary is pretty darn good after a two year rest in my humidor. Smooth, sweet, floral/hay notes make for a great relaxing experience.

Merry Christmas to my GG family. I wish all of you a very happy and joyful season; hopefully in the company of family and friends.

I’m celebrating the day with.a special Cuban Romeo y Julieta Cazadores cigar. I’ve been aging a bundle in my humidor for six years and it’s time to enjoy. Smooth, creamy, with a distinct Cuban floral bouquet and a hint of anise spice on the palate. Gorgeous!

Merry Christmas!

Enjoying some alone time. A Perdomo Craft Series Sungrown.

These cigars are meant to pair well with certain types of beer. So tonight I'm pairing it up with a yards pale ale.

Two days before the new year and it’s a mild and warm 63F. Perfect time for an Irish Coffee and a L’Atelier LAT-56 Toro. I like this cigar. Bold, smooth, hints of earthiness and spice. Happy New Year!!

In received a new pipe stand from a friend for Christmas. So figured I would get a new pipe to go with it. It's just a basket pipe but still very good looking and functional for the frequency I smoke.

A basket pipe is basically a 2nd. They are pipes that just meet quality standards and are sold at much lower cost. In a break and motor store these style pipes are usually kept in a basket, which coined the phrase "basket" pipe.

It's first smoke is Sutliff Crumble Kale Red Virginia. Just a basic blend of red Virginia tobacco, but still very flavorful.

Nothing like lighting up a few dried and cured tobacco leaves. Whether pipe or cigar, it's always a few relaxing moments of personal contemplation.

Gurkha Genghis Khan in Churchill. Not sure how Churchill smoked 8-10 of these a day!

Nice smoke with a dark wrapper and even draw. The smoke is thicker and has a  cocoa-powder sweetness.

Enjoying with a glass of locally distilled bourbon
