Looking for do-hickies
« on: July 11, 2019, 08:04:53 PM »
I don’t know what to call them so I can’t find a picture to use as an example. These do-hickies allow wire, cable, or rope to pass through but a spring loaded cam prevents the wire, cable, or rope from backing out unless the operator lifts the cam. I know some of you guys know exactly what I’m talking about. I need some that I can use in a fabrication project and they need to be small enough to receive 14 ga wire.

They are wire pulling grips.

What I’m looking for functions much like that but what I need is smaller and spring loaded. I want to push the wire in and have it automatically hold the wire until I release it.

What I’m looking for would be something kinda like this. The wire feeds in and is automatically held in place until released by the operator. The cam has teeth even if they’re small. Just enough to grip the wire. Pulling on the wire causes the cam to grip harder.

That’s based on the same principle I’m talking about but the boat version is made to hold rope, not wire as small as 14ga. I’m trying to think where I’ve seen one like what I need. No success yet.

sounds/looks like you are talking about a barbed wire puller.

It’s very similar and works in the same principle but smaller.

I’m sure you can’t be suggesting clothes pins.

No.  clothes line clamps.  They were used to tighten the old woven fabric over a stringy core clothes line. The loose end was pulled thru the cam acting clamp that was screwed down to the cross bar.  They look like the cam cleats but smaller.  The ones I remember seeing were cast iron.  The only thing I get with a web search is clothesline tighteners.  They are round & the cord goes thru the center.  I'll check further.

I found the clothesline tighteners. I’d like to see the inner workings.
