Just a strange experience.
« on: March 20, 2020, 06:11:28 PM »
I needed some things so I went to the grocery store ( my county is rated at little to no risk with zero cases or suspected cases ) and it was just a weird experience.
Everyone just has a strange look on their faces like their trying to pretend there's nobody else around, yet at the same time they're very aware of everyone around them who their trying very hard to avoid getting too close to.

And of course they were out of a lot of things, but it was interesting to see what things got shipped out and things that didn't seem to be that important to most.

Anyone else had to go to the store during all this madness ?

The 2 Walmarts in our county are out of beef, pork, chicken, eggs, paper goods and health items. We picked up an online order yesterday but didn't get everything we ordered. We park in the pickup stalls and call them and they bring it out to the vehicle so we don't have to go in the store. The parking lot was maybe 1/4 full of what is usually there. The grocery stores have the same deal and also allow only seniors in the stores from 7 to 8 am.

It was strange driving through town and seeing many businesses closed but it was incredible to see the casinos dark with empty parking lots. Some casinos don't even have locks on the doors as they never close and they don't want people to see the locks and think they could be closed under normal conditions. We did call in a takeout food order to our favorite restaurant and picked it up and nobody else was even in the parking lot. That was very strange as they are usually very busy at 6pm.

Been to the bigger supermarket 30 miles from home.   Bread and eggs, back to normal, paper products aisle was empty.   Drive thru at McDs, as the seating area is locked.   Was told car license plates were common at walmart from 50 miles away, guess there may be hoarding competition going on.  Staying home working on muliple remodeling projects.

Just why is the rush on TP?  It seems so senseless for that stuff in this situation.

It has spread to central Mexico already.  Senseless stupid stocking up on non crisis related products.

I really don't get it either, generally here most have a shower within feet of the can and I just don't understand why toilet paper would be so important.

I was glad to see there were plenty of cans of Brunswick smokes herring fillets aka " kipper snacks ".

Wife went to the store earlier this week and brought home the regular purchases.  Some things were picked over, but we are already stocked for the buyout goods.

Last week had bare shelves of various items at virtually every place I went into. This week they had some of just about every item, stock guys were hustling putting product on the shelves. Even the baggers were stocking!

I think they were trying extra hard to give customers the sense that things are available and to calm the heck down. But we heard stories of people spitting on managers for being out of things, and customers coming in and spraying disinfectant spray on register counters so heavy it made the cashiers cough. (Then they get treated like they have corona).  :38:

Right now, people are opportunity shopping. They see something, the pick it up because they have room to put it. The reason that you see some things one day and zero the next is mainly when the shipment comes in. In a little while people will run out of room and stop doing this. There will be more TP sitting around then and everyone will wonder why they bought so much.
