Thanks for all the welcomes!!  Much appreciated!

In time I'm going to bring back the International Harvester tool thread.  I've also got a new project going on that I would like to start a thread for.  And, I look forward to posting elsewhere, giving some advice and contributing where I can.

Hi Scott, remember me the guy from Hawaii with the Land Cruiser? It’s great to hear from you again. How’s the 4x4? Scouts are the most badass offroads anywhere.

Of course I remember you Cruiser!!  How you been?

There are 3 Scouts keeping me company right now.  Plus the wife and I are building a '60 IH pickup hot rod right now.  Its currently disassembled but we hope to have it on the road in about a year.

Damn that's sweet. Can't wait to see the pickup fully restored.  Doesn't get any better than that.

Two years ago when I was still working, I got a chance to see the Dakota oil fields via the train from Minneapolis.  First time for me on a real train. Anyway, I got to see the part of the country where you and SK live. And I have to say, it's mighty fine where you guys live. This is where real Americans live and feed the rest of us.  If I had the money for a second residence, I'd feel right at home living in God's country as your neighbor.

Cruiser, you would be more than welcome out here in the midwest.

As far as the IH pickup, its going to a shop next week to get some chassis work done.  The front will get a new crossmember, aftermarket Mustang II suspension, power rack and pinion and disk brakes.  The rear will get a Ford 9" with disc brakes and coilovers.  Its also getting a couple new crossmembers in the rear to allow a gas tank between the framerails, mounted under the rear of the box.  We have a built-up 327 Chevy for it that will get electronic fuel injection.  There is also an electronically controlled 4L60E transmission waiting to be installed.  I have fixed the cab floor, worked out some dents and dings and have done some other body work.  The paint will be left alone.  We will keep the patina.  The interior is getting a dashboard from a newer IH Loadstar truck to facilitate a custom gauge cluster and a radio, modern heat and A/C etc....  Anyhow, I plan to start a build thread to chronicle the story.

That IHC will be a unique cruiser.   Roomy cab, lots of glass, but the ride and handling did leave a bit to be desired.   Had a 59 one ton 4x4,  liked it just fine at 50mph.  Hope the hinges and latches are better than what was on mine.  Keep us posted,,,, and welcome back.

Wow Scott, so other than than the body, it will be a modern daily driver. Way cool. Tell me about the Loadstar dash. When I was in college I drove a IH Loadstar moving truck.  The thing I most remember is that it had no hood. Easy to to see what was in front of me as I was a shitty rig driver.

I know it wasn't a 1600. Maybe a 1700?

The Loadstars were excellent trucks.  1600s were pretty common in lighter applications.  We still run a 1700 and 1800 on the farm hauling seed.

The pic of the dash with the little "pod" of gauges is like what is currently in our pickup.  The other pic is close to what we are picking up this fall.  As you can see, the Loadstar dash is bigger and flatter, allowing easier customization.  We can make a blank panel where the gauges reside and add anything we really want as far as gauges.  I really hated to cut up the factory dash.

Those IH cabovers are pretty cool!  If I remember correctly, they were usually referred to as a Cargostar but early ones would have been called a Loadstar.  I've never had the opportunity to drive one.  Interesting note is that some of them had a 5 speed column shift!  :o

Scott, your restoration is going be so cool. A cross between modern and classic.  And fun to drive to boot. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks Cruiser!  We are pretty excited!  It's nice to be "over the hump" as far as taking things apart and removing things that are not "hotrod".  From here on out, its going to be mostly reassembly.

I like the wrap around windshield on the p/u. I'd hate to have to replace it though.
