Is there any reason I shouldn’t buy the auto tint welding helmet from HF. I’m sure there are better helmets out there. As with many things, I prefer to buy the best I can afford. What other helmets are worth the additional price without having to pay through the nose for it?

I'm not sure of the quality of the HF helmets and self darkening lens. You only get two eyes, so choose wisely.
I'm more of a fixed shade kinda guy, though I recently moved from a #10 to a #9 and a pair of +2 magnifying glasses to help me see better under the hood.

I have a Lincoln helmet with the larger view area, though I have been looking at a jackson so I can use it with a mangifying lens.

I was looking for an auto darkening helmet too. I would ask the same question - what's the difference between the HF and Hobart helmets ? They are both made in China , have the same specs , etc. I get the same answer - It's youe eyes. So , I bought the Hobart from Tractor Supply for $ 100.00. It's black. I could have bought a camo or flame helmet for $ 20.00 more. I guess I trust Hobart more than HF.

I have a HF auto hood I use with my 120v wire feed machine, it seems to work fine. AvE did a very good review of a cheep auto unit and a Lincoln unit.
For stick welding I still use a Fibre-Metal Tigerhood with #10 glass, preferably with the gold tint. I tried arc welding with the auto hood and I always got a headache, Im positive that cant be good.
