Title: Mystery socket

I was going through a tote of tools I had emptied out from an MBC roller I bought from a former mechanic. I have never seen a socket like this.
It is 1/4" drive and less than an inch long. It has three tapered drive lugs on the inside which taper from top to bottom and the lugs protrude roughly .040 from the .250 diameter on the top edge. No name on the socket anywhere. What is it used for?

it looks like some type of socket to drive a tamper proof or security type screw.

SK is correct it is for a tamperproof screw. The one in the center is variation but there are a couple other styles including one with more of a cone shaped type head.

It would have to be a tiny screw with a head smaller than 1/4" for it to be a tamperproof screw. Since it came from an older mechanic I figured it was automotive related.
Lostmind, what would it fit on an AMC distributor?

 Looks like the socket I used on my gas cap screws on my 68 barracuda

Trigger sensor for electronic ignition. I think that's what they called it. I had a socket like that when I worked at AMC / jeep
in mid 70's
