The CMP just brought a bunch of 1911s back from overseas. IIRC they started at $1K  :-\

The Civilian Marksmanship Program.   An effort to distribute surplus military firearms to the law abiding.  They have a web site.  Still wanting to own a Garand.  Friend just got one from the CMP,  new replacement barrel, in the correct finish, overall a near perfect rifle.

Have you seen the M1 prices? They just shipped in something like 30,000 of them from the Philippians and the prices start at $850 and go up up up from there highest I seen was $3250. I remember granddad saying that in the late 50's the hardware store had barrels full of M1's and Springfield's for $7-$15.

It seems that in the last decade CMP prices are always high. Twenty years ago they had some excellent deals on firearms and ammunition, but these days they seem to be way overpriced -- JMHO
