The most irritating thing about this is the wasted energy & resources.  Apparently all of our other problems have been solved.  Think of the cost to our society & many beneficial things fell by the wayside to focus everything on this.  The entire process, IF it is valid, could have been streamlined drastically.

Hickory, technically he has been impeached as impeachment means the charges have officially been leveled.  So that step has been taken.  Now the Senate needs to find him guilty (which is unlikely) and start the process to remove him from office.  Just the act of taking him to trial before the Senate constitutes impeachment but in no way means he is guilty or that they will be successful.

From Wiki
Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. ... In the United States, for example, impeachment at the federal level is limited to those who may have committed "Treason, Bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors".
