The Picture that took Ten Years
« on: August 19, 2018, 03:04:18 PM »
I had decided to collect (at least) one of every drive size ratchet Snap-on ever made. I'll admit when I made the decision I was not aware of how difficult it would be. It took about 10 years to get them all and the most elusive for me was 1 1/2. They do show up but can be expensive and I have limited funds to work with. The 7/8 was also difficult to acquire and was the last of the group.

Top to bottom: 1/4, 9/32, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 1 and 1 1/2. The 3/4, 1, and 1 1/2 are shown without the handles. The 5/8 and 7/8 are the same ratchet with different drive plugs. I have no idea why some PO painted the 5/8 red.

Snap-on has made sockets in larger sizes but never ratchets they were designed for impact tools and they also made a 1/8 drive but again never any ratchets in that size.

Cool!  I knew about 9/32 'cause it goes back awhile and I've run into a few trying to fool me as 1/4" hiding in a packed box, but didn't know of a couple of the other oddballs.  Also remember the 1/8" set from the catalog that had a driver handle only.

There's plenty more tools out there to be found.

The 9/32 are usually desired by collectors but you are right they are so close to 1/4 they have fooled many.

Oh no! I have 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 and I think there was 3/4. I know I'm going to regret this question but what other sizes did they make?

Gongraulations JAFE. Those fine ratchets are testimony to your tool knowledge and dedication. I take a bow to you, sir.

I sometimes wonder how rational these decisions are. Yet I can't help myself.

But thanks for the kind words Cruiser.

That is a very nice collection Steve. I can see where it would take time and patience to complete the search
