Show your Proto Sets
« on: August 28, 2018, 10:26:14 PM »
First is a Challenger by Proto 3/8 drive 6pt set. I had found that someone had slipped an off brand one in so I had a Matco 6pt the right length. Set is like new.
Second is a Proto 3/8 drive set. Again like new except for the sockets I added.
Third is a Proto 1/2 drive set. Like new except for sockets I added.

I don't have much Proto, but one of the things is a set of service wrenches. Very handy for hydraulic fittings and other difficult access stuff. I have quite a few Proto punches and chisels. They never disappoint.

I've seen Martin, Bonney, and Wright (I think) of those but never any Proto's. Nice!

Very early Proto 3/8 socket set. most of the pieces are marked Proto LA, but some are stamped Proto/Plomb.

A friend has that box he's trying to sell but he has a whole bunch of Plomb he wants to sell as a group. That is a very hard box to find. And those tools look great in it!

Not really a Proto 3/8 socket set, but it’s predecessor.

That's pretty amazing for a box about 70 years old. I hope I look that good at 70.

Just not as yellow.

Proto long combo wrenches. The 9/32" isn't part of the set but it is the same length as the 1/4" so I keep it with the set.

Hi Snaparxon - about half and half. Pearl Harbor shipyard workers used a lot of Proto tools that have ended up in swap meets or garage sales. The rest I got from eBay or friends. And, it’s taken decades to acquire this stuff. I was introduced to Proto tools in 1984 and have been a fanboy ever since. They’re not as well chromed and as nice as Snap-on, but much more affordable and convenient to get. This is important when you live in a high cost of living, high taxed, liberal hippie State like Hawaii. But, bottom line, Proto tools are tough as nails.

A very old Proto LA combo set circa late 40’s - early 50’s. 1/4 - 1-1/8 wrenches. Not a collectible, but a full user set.

Back in the day, Proto Tool Co. also had the ladies in mind when they created the “Diligent Duchess “ tool set. Not very PC in today’s world.   :))

Thanks Steve. I found that set on eBay for cheap and couldn’t resist. Lots of sparkles, but not very practical. This particular set will remain a collector and not a user.

Hi Snaparxon - no, the scissors are not marked Proto. It is a Wiss Trimline. I could be wrong, but I don’t believe Proto ever made household scissors. At least I’ve never seen them in the catalogs.

These were my dad's which he gave me because he hardly uses tools anymore.
According to him he bought them together but I don't really know.
Always lookin' to learn
