Was looking for an esate sale in a small subdivision. Couldn't find it, but saw a big microwave sitting by the curb. Stopped and grabbed it.
Seems to be a pretty big Sharp, circa 2005. Made in USA!!! Whisper clean inside - I'm hoping it didn't see much use and is something simple like a blown fuse of something. I think the SIL could use a microwave - if not I'll keep it as a spare or sell it once things open up in a garage sale.

BTW have you confirmed it doesn't work? Folks with more money than sense will replace stuff just because it's old.

our Sharp MW had a fuse blow on it. it was about 3 month old at the time. The wife called Sharp and they told her to pull the ID emblem inside the door and send it to them, they would send a replacement. I decided to look at it. found a fuse holder on the left side of the door under the cover. replaced fuse and its been working for years at work.

I have not done any diagnostics yet, Matt.
But I've found out it uses a glass tray - and there's no tray present. Could they have dropped and broken the glass tray early on, and stopped using it because the part replacement cost near $70 put them off? It might just be that simple.
I'll put a glass plate in there with a cup of water on it and run it on high for 60 seconds. See if it runs, and heats. If so, it might very well be it just needs the glass plate. :)

Dollars to donuts it is just a missing tray that is the problem, but that is a $50 part. But I would bet you can find a replacement of some sort at Goodwill pretty easily.

Why do you think the plain glass tray is so expensive? Could it be Pyrex or something else high end to take the heat without cracking?

Just did an operational check. Put a microwave-safe plastic try on the rotating support and a ceramic coffee cup of water. After a minute and 15 seconds the water was at 189 degrees. I'd say the thing is just fine - now need to find a glass tray.
So it's looking like I'll have 3 microwaves. My main 1990 Magic Chef commercial (still going), a 1988 Panasonic tiny oven (also an alley save) for left overs and TV dinners, and this big Sharp Carousel as a back up. So as long as there's power I can have hot meals! :lol_hitting:

Went plate shopping today. The second store I walked into had the plate I needed for $1. So I'm set! :great:

It's a big unit, too. 1200 watts. 24" wide, 27" deep, 13" high. Plus I found a copy of the owners manual on-line, so I'm pleased.

Hey B-man, I was just in a Restore the other day, and there was a stack of the pyrex plates for microwaves there. I bet you can find one dirt cheap.

Got the micro operational not a minute too soon. Our old Magic Chef oven just gave up defrosting two days after I finished the Sharp oven. :08:
