a cheap and good quality long tape
« on: October 16, 2018, 09:38:58 AM »
A lot of hunting to find that clueless seller with a good long tape measure.
Too many ask more than retail for used and for the little it is used not warranted.

In the future I will need to know surface areas in meters to estimate jobs  and that required a 20M or better rule to do.   I found an old Mex made steel tape in 25 M size at under ten bucks.   Not beat up or water damaged so it will do.   Well made at that.

Nice score there but that would be useless to me. I would hate to see the end result if I tried to use that tape. My mind just doesn't think well in metric.

Its about exposure.  I see near all metric on everything.  If I can get my retirement biz up and running all my potential customers will only know metric.

I got an inch only Fat Max for a song as the seller had no other buyers.    He thought he snookered me but I can convert close enough in my head from either.

Being bilingual and having a base understanding of the measures used in both systems has made stuff useful to me.  Very few others compete with me to drive up price.

The generalist and omnivore always have the best chances of survival when skills of specialists lose value.  Just a lot harder to reach for the fat pay in good times.

Yeah, us Mcgyvers and DIYers have a real advantage.

And I've always felt being bilingual was a great benefit.  When I don't want someone to understand me I just speak with New York speed and slang and they're lost. :D

I have no ability to speak Spanish (or any other language other than English) but I am comfortable working in inches or with that French system.

I would have bought it in dual marked too.  Its just that for my needs metric is required.    If on JAFE in his solar system I would need it in alien cubits.

Here I thought it was so grumpy old men in England could bitch about getting more beer in a liter than they got in a pint down at the pub.

But there are more pints in a gallon than liters.

It's those sillymeters that are so small.

Inches are much bigger.
