I just bought a M Farmall farm tractor, with hydraulic loader. Grew up driving an M, but they got sold on the farm sale 42 years ago. Always had a soft spot for an M, had just written it down in my bucket list, to own one again some day. Figured since I am 68, best make it happen. It is complete, runs, engine sounds good. tires fair. on a farm tractor new tires can exceed the cost of the machine. I already have two John Deeres, ad the IHC 460, so really don't need another tractor, but why not I asked self. Getting sickle mower for the back, leaving the bucket on the front. One problem, it is 50 miles from here,, and wheels won't sit in far enough to go on my car trailer.. So am looking for someone with a bigger traler. Sometimes a guy does some goofy things. Right?

When you say car trailer I am assuming you have an inside to inside width of 6.5' or 7'? If thats the case the M will fit. All you have to do is spin the hubs around and now you have a skinny M.
My trailer is 18'x102" but the inside to inside of my fenders is 7'-2". The easiest way to load my M was to remove the rims from the hubs, remove and spin the hubs around, switch the rims from left to right side and bolt everything back up. If your just going to move this tractor one time you could just move the swap the rims and hubs and then swap them back after the move.

this is the case with with my trailer, too narrow tween the fenders. if i slide the wheels in til they hit the loader frame, still 6 inches too wide. So have to drop the loader, then move the wheels in, make a second trip for the loader, but then would need help to load it. so drop the loader on my trailer, go home unload it. also the tractor wheels have double weights, at 100 lbs each. just trying to do this without so much labor. getting lazy i guess, plus with fall coming on, weather is pushing things, at the owners place, it lays so that one can't do this if its wet. time is a wasting.

I would but, it is on an old farm place, that has gotten surrounded by the city of Omaha. the access street is a busy 4 lane. then have to thread my way thru ten miles of suburbs to get to the country. Then it would be best to take country roads til closer to home, as anything close to the city are busy 4 lanes. Think I will trailer it.

rent a car hauler from U haul. I did that once when a tractor ran into my checkbook in Austin. ;D
Back in my high school days I drove a big JD dual rear wheeled machine @25 miles. more than a few mailboxes were destroyed on that ride. ;D

That should handle the snow. Does it have enough hydraulics for a bucket?

How does a tricycle steer with a FEL on it? Some of the little Fords I get have FEL on them and without power steering they can be a bear to steer.

Narrow front handles a loader just fine, even without power steering, untilyou load the bucket. Anything without ps steers best when moving.

I’ve got an M tucked away in the shed waiting on some time to tidy it up , more likely going to be a retirement project . Have a soft spot for them as my Dad grew up with them on the home farm . He had a story when he came home from WW2 , the road was flooded and the taxi could only take him so far , family had to come and get him on the M , water on the road was just about up to the Magneto. Mine is a wide front end.... I’ll get some pics and post here when I get a chance .

Loader has the old lift n drop one way cylinders, still can read the McCormick stickers.
Ordered a light switch, none in it now. Wires in the box look tough, the light switch has 5 positions, low charge, high charge, low beam, hi beam, all lights. Got to dig in the barn for a belt pulley, might run the buzz saw a little. Saturday looks like the to get it home. Luck.

Got the M home. Arrived there all was sunshine, by the time it was on the trailer there was thunder and lightning. Pulled out the driveway in heavy rain. Lots of rusty bolts to get the loader and its frame off. Moving in the wheels went slick, except for two wheel clamp bolts that I had to stand on the 24 inch breaker bar to get loose. Took along my new Dewalt impact wrench, it did itself proud, but there were places it wouldnt fit. Lots of oil on the axle, and used a 5 ft pry bar to help things along. Flipped one rear wheel, even that went easy. Took off both wheelweights, think they are 150 lbs, about all I cared to lift onto the trailer. The 50 mile trip home went smooth save for the heavy traffic that kept building up behind me.

I wondered this myself one time. According to IHC they weigh 145lbs each, I grabbed a random M wheel weight I had waiting for paint. It weighed in at 145.7 lbs, old paint and dust included. You know you have done something once you stack 2 or 3 sets on the tractor.
