Ideas on why
« on: October 11, 2020, 07:49:42 PM »
Ok I've had this in my Chest for years. Don't even remember where I got it. Its a proto 1 1/16 with a hex nut attached. They even filed it to match the Broaching. Ideas

Obvious answer is limited space fastener access.  Narrow gap in this case.

Hot rodder or heavy equipment  guys do a lot of magic one off tool mods.

That used to be a spark plug size way back when.  One with poir access?

Definitely looks like it was made for one specific purpose.

Maybe extend the socket to make it deeper? Or to use a wrench on the nut flats for more leverage.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

well......... it's not a hex nut .

it's an octagon. looks to me like maybe a pipe or plumbing flange nut. hard to tell from the picture but it doesn't appear to make the socket much deeper. as the socket sits down into the  nut,

how is it attached? i don't see welds. pressed in maybe?

It was probably used as a plug or cap-style bolt removal tool for some machinery or fitting. I've seen similar shopmade tools for removing the plugs from large drums.

SK good call on the octogan.

GF may to on to something, made in a shop for repetitive use.  Few would make it that nice for one time shot
