Yeah, giving the S.S. number out is a big red flag for me.
Just received a job app that wanted my SS number. I assume it's something they need to have their contracted security company run a background check. Then there's this blazee disclaimer saying that they will take all reasonable actions to prevent unauthorized use of the number.
Ah, sorry, you want me to hand over all my critical personal data, and you'll promise to take all "reasonable" precautions? Sounded like "reasonable" gun control.
They need my S.S. number after I'm hired for tax purposes, and then they are personally responsible for maintaining it's confidentiality. This way they get me to sign away any litigation claims if the bozos they give it to to do their research for them sells it or loses it to another party. Tore the app up and tossed it in the trash, where it belongs.
By the way OP - I dumped paypal years ago after the first big round of "updated" terms of use hit.
