1957 Ford Thunderbird
« on: October 02, 2023, 08:39:17 PM »
The 1957 Thunderbird is one of my favorite cars. Ford built the two passenger sporty Thunderbird for three years. 1955, 1956, and 1957. I always favored the 57 with the continental kit and port hole hard top. The top could be taken off and used as a convertible. I came across one on the first day of the Hershey Swap meet. This one is painted with the OEM bronze color. If I purchased this car. I wound paint it in red. Far better choice.

Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

Wow!  That’s a very rare item to be hanging around one’s garage. If I had such an option as the super charger. I’d be looking very hard to purchase a car to install it on. And the Thunderbird is such a car.

Nice!  I think that bronze could grow on me.  :93:

Let us know if you see a 1960 T-Bird with the optional sunroof.  ;)

I really love the 2 seater mid 50's T-Birds, but even as a kid back in the early 60's, the 1962 Bird was (to me) the coolest looking car I had ever laid eyes on. Those round tail light housings really looked like jet engines to me. To this day I still have an itch for a '62 T-Bird convertible.

How about the '62 Thunderbird Sports Roadster?   ;)

The ultimate '62 in my mind. Be still my heart!! Those were the days, and I'm very glad that I was around during that historical automotive period.

A good friend of mine owned a red 1962 Bird sport roaster just as pictured. He was in his 90’s at the time and gave me a ride with the top down. Scarfed the heck out of me when he hit 100 mph!  Never again did I ride with him His wife made him sell that car along with two fuel injected Corvettes after he totaled one out.

hell..... i am not afraid, i will show my true colors.

i can see aspects of that car that car one may like. i understand the rarity, the uniqueness and the influence of design on future models that some may find attractive.

at the risk of offending some, i will make this comment.  the vast majority of stuff from the blue oval just does not appeal to me. i can't say why, and i don't know why but it just does not appeal to me. in fact, the more i look at that color/ body combo above it makes me somewhat nauseous. that sucker is just plain ugly. too much hood, too much roof, too much trunk. too much blue.. the proportiions are just wrong and i find it downright ugly!

please take no offense to my opinion as i am sure others may feel the same about other brands, body styles and colors.

It's all good.  I like all sorts of makes and models.  I would love to get a '59 Impala convertible but those have hit the stratosphere in pricing now.  '66 and '67 GTO aren't too far behind.  For some reason, a lot of Fords are still affordable in the collector car market compared to Chevy.  Never been a big Oldsmobile fan but post WW2 up to 1960 are pretty nice, 1959 especially.  Late '50s and '60s Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth definite thumbs up.  Can't stand a lot of newer Dodges though.

Weren't the supercharged models called an F-Bird?  Same supercharger was available in the full size cars, check Thunderroad, starting Robert Mitchum.
