Title: Estate sale 6/14/19
Post by: bmwrd0 on June 14, 2019, 07:34:49 PM
I am trying to wean myself of going to estate sales, at least when I have cash on me, as I am pretty well tooled up but I saw an ad for one that looks like it might be worth checking out. It was run by a company that I don't really like as they are tool anal for my tastes; expensive, they put stuff into weird lots that don't match and they tend to clean everything before the sale so I always get the feeling that good stuff gets tossed. But, the ad said there were a few Snap-on chests, a craftsman chest, loads of tools and guns. So, I didn't go and stand in line but went a couple of hours after it opened.

Holy Cow! There were tools everywhere, of all types and quality levels. The crowd was thinning out when I got there, but there were a lot of good deals to be had. Still a huge pile of trash, but the whole thing was worth it. This is what I picked up:

PowrKraft socket set, Snap-on terminal block set, Stanley saw set in box with papers, Fulton ignition pliers set (one missing but had been replaced by Vacuum Grips), Snap-on TML70A, Starrett 174 tap wrench, Craftsman RHFT flex, and a Fairmont body spoon. First day, morning price of $42.

As I was leaving I checked out the free/trash pile and among the distributors and coils, empty boxes and sheet metal, I found this:

A KRA series side shelf. A little rusty on the edge, like someone spilled battery acid on it, but it should clean up just fine.

I think you did good. I have that same shelf. Mine looked just like that after about a year. I think brake fluid ate the paint away on mine.  Ohh.. and what's this  " I am trying to wean myself of going to estate sales " thing. You know that's never going to happen. One tool at a sale is too many and 15 isn't enough.  ;D

Those side shelves can go for big money.  Damn nice to walk away with one.

Darn nice quality grabs there. Finding that side shelf in the free pile was the cherry on top. Good job.

Nice lot!

I'm looking for the EASCO round handle version of that long flex head rat you've got. I've got two Bonney's that have me covered, but I'd like to snag one of the EASCO's.

So I went back the afternoon of the last day, to see what I could dig out. This all came home with me:
(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48069154498_69afcf535c_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/2geGYVQ)
Imperial refrigeration wrenches, partial box of 1/4-20 taps, Opinel tree saw, The heaviest offset screwdriver I have ever seen which is a Snap-on 050, SK bit driver, Proto bit socket, Proto Phillips screw starter, bits for push drill, Snap-on scale, Hallowell Allen bit driver with bits in the handle, P&C driver and a screw gauge. There was a ton more, most of it stuff I wasn't remotely interested in. But they were making deals so I only paid $6 for all that.

Another good little haul, I especially like the little stubby screw starter the Opinel pruning saw, and that SK bit driver.
I think I'm gonna have to get me one of those SK bit drivers.

Those Imperial wrenches are a first for me - and I'm in the industry! The offset must act as a torque multiplier and help with access. Great find!
The Hillman gage is one of several we used to hand out for free at Ace Hardware when I was there. I grabbed a few myself. And I was gonna guess the offset screwdriver was a carpet installing tool or something. Man that thing is massive!

Hickory, I've got a wooden handled stubby I modified for use with 1/4" sockets. I'm sure you could make one similar to the OP's find without too much hassle. 2 part epoxy is my friend! ;D

I just don't have a stubby driver handle to sacrifice for this, but if I did it would be a 5 minute project for sure.

Yes, very nice finds. If your looking to move that body spoon on to a welcoming home, just send me a note.  :)

I too have that stubby SK bit driver, and enjoy using it from time to time. It's replaced my homemade version found in my user box.
