A nice photo essay of a shipyard in San Diego. Don't let it being from the New York Times put you off, it is very well done.

Amazing that we can compete in that commercial space anymore. Henry Keyser practically invented modular ship design and building; we should be the world leader in the commercial space.

I have been to that shipyard many times and it is impressive. If it wasn't for the Jones Act we probably wouldn't be building any large commercial vessels. I used to go to the Navy shipyard there also.

My garden tractor was built at the NASSCO shipyard in 1947 when they were scrambling to find work to keep their employees post-war.
