A little Craftsman buy.
« on: November 27, 2018, 04:00:58 PM »
I was at the local hardware store to pick up a new circle bulb for the hallway and saw something I never noticed on the rack before.
I've been interested in trying one out, and I'm pretty sure they no longer make them so for $14+ tax I went for it.

I had never actually seen one in person, so I was surprised to discover that the mini Craftsman ratchet I made is the same length.
I'm not sure how I managed to replicate it as closely as I did, but that's pretty cool.

I never liked the idea of these as a bit driver till I made my ratchet and realized they probably would be handy for screws, using adapters adds height so I'm glad to have one just for sockets and one just for bits.

That's the biggest reason I bought it.
They had a little General that caught my eye because I've wanted to try one of the extra small kind, but I was disappointed to see MADE IN CHINA on the back which I didn't expect so when I saw MADE IN USA on this I didn't care that the price was almost double.
The General really was a let down , but maybe I'll come a cross one somewhere.

I have one and like it alot. You can use regular 1/4" hex bits, or you can make your own hex adapter out of a damaged allen  wrench.....and then use those hex drive sockets that get ignored all day in the shop. ;D

Sounds like a good idea if I had some hex drive sockets.

I think I have a small set that I can spare. Let me know if U R interested, I'll dig around and see if I can find it.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm not sure I really have much need for 'em.

These are nice to have. At one time there were a set of three a flat one, one angled up like yours and one angled down. I believe they were made by Kastar now known as Lang Tools.

I've seen a few of the sets available NOS on eBay, I didn't catch that they were different and wondered why there would be a set of them.
I also saw the one I picked up being sold for what I payed so I suppose the $14 was a good price.

Btw now that you mention it , I've seen the orange vinyl gripped Lang version online and they look identical.

I think 14 was a good price. It's a nice piece and will hold up well.

Not something you need often but can certainly save the day now and then

Good addition to the collection
