Title: Changed cellphone providers
Post by: DeadNutz on August 10, 2019, 05:45:37 PM
We got tired of the size of the bills from Verizon so the wife did her due diligence to find a new provider. So we dumped the big V and have changed to T-Mobile. The personnel at the store were much nicer and more knowledgeable than the yahoos at V. They have a 55+ Magenta plan for 2 lines with unlimited text and data for $70 a month. They said our Galaxy S7 phones would work with their service but when I told them about the different locations I travel to they said we needed to upgrade to new phones to get the best service. So we got Galaxy S10's and they work better than the 7's which they also gave us trade-in value on.

A girl from T-Mobile also dropped off a bag containing a 4GLTE Cellspot at our house. She must of checked some way how our phones were working because she knew we were only getting 2 bars of signal in our house. The Cellspot was given at no charge and I hooked it up today and we now get 5 bars and turned the Wi-Fi off on our phones when at home since it is like we have our own cell tower. The nearest tower is across the valley from us. It has a GPS function and I stuck the antenna on the wall above my desk and it is working fine even though it is in the middle of the house not exactly close to a window. The GPS is needed so if we call 911 they see the address.

We are happy so far with the change and I will see how well the coverage is when I travel several valleys to the east and north.

Good info.

I've been a satisfied customer of big V forever but am always looking for a better deal but hesitate to ditch my iPhone.

The wife went plan shopping a while back after she burned thru her 10GB data plan in 12 days :o  She even tried to blame me for it till I compared our phones. mine had 45min of data usage and hers had 11 hours ;D

All the carriers had a similar plan 2 lines unlimited data for @$120 month. We're gonna stay with ATT as they have the best coverage in our area.

I have threatened multiple times to switch to one of these other brands. I have always just been worried about service, my sister went with straight talk and her service is great but she also lives in a major metro area. I have att now, service is great but the bill is to spendy.

I switched our plans over to PureTalk after being with ATT for 25 years.  ATT is the most reliable service in our area.  PureTalk runs on the ATT backbone.  Since adding my daughter we regularly went over on the data plan we were on.  We have 4 devices on this plan for ~half the ATT price.

We have our cell phones with Xfintity, the local cable provider.  They piggyback on Verizon's network.  Service is fine, price is better then the biggies

With the smaller companies, you will likely be fine in metro areas but get out in the country and service may be lacking

We had Trac phones in VT, we were happy with them. When we moved to FL I got a Verizon plan for the better service, there,s a joke. Got fed up and went back to Trac phone and it,s costing a $100 a year apiece. We don't play games or do a lot of stuff to use our data up, mostly get directions. We have a home phone we most of our calling on. We aren't the kind of people that have a phone in our hands 24/7, in fact we have fun in a public place watching the people that do. Sad,kinda. No problems in years. Very happy.

This is what I found as well. All the providers with comparable coverage are just as much per month. Verizon's coverage is best in the area.
