USA boots
« on: February 21, 2021, 12:23:27 PM »
Here is a site with a list of USA boot makers. They do caution that not all companies sell all USA made boots so you have to check and do research. There are also comments that share more USA boot makers.

I buy my boots from midwest boots and Workboots.com.
Both list the COO very clearly, but they don't always have every model from every company nor to they stock every single manufacturer.
Still they do make it clear which is good, midwest prices aren't always the best but they often throw in a free T shirt or bonus pair of good quality American made laces with Thorogoods and in general they care about American made boots most.

Btw there are some companies that do lots of contract production and of course this means a number of American brands that do not have their own manufacturing facility.

Weinbrenner ( who owns and created the Thorogood line around 1918 ) manufactures boots / shoes for many other companies and used to make the work and sport line for Fleet farm.

LL bean boots are made by Chippewa who is now owned by Justin.

Maybe I missed something,  but I didn't see Ariat boots on the list, Tecovas, Peter Limmer & sons, nor did I see Lacrosse rubber boots, or Dunlop rubber boots.
They also left off Georgia boot, but I'm not sure if they have their own factory or not.
There are even more, but I suppose the fact there was enough for them to forget some is a good thing.
There may be far more options for imported crap today,  but there are also plenty of American made boots to choose from too.
You won't pay under $175 unless they're on sale or it's just a pair of rubber wellingtons which tend to start around $20, but the American options are worth it.

Bean boots are made in Maine. I've never heard they weren't made by Bean anymore

That's right and I misspoke
I do believe they have or had at least one model that's actually made by Chippewa though , a work boot if I remember correctly.

Tecovas are made in Mexico. Which may as well be considered domestic made ::)

I thought they were made in Texas,  but Mexican made does make sense.

If one wants to take it a step further, drill down to what location they actually make them in the USA. If on a USA/Mexico border town USA side, you can be pretty sure they heavily use Mexican laborers that have day work visas to come over and work on the USA side and then go back across to Mexico and their money with them. Somewhat of a dirty secret in the "USA Made" garment industry.

I bought my first pair of Thorogoods from Midwest, we didn't have a local shop that carried them. Since then we've got a local guy selling them. He's a bit more pricy but I can try them on before buying. Plus his Dad ran the place years back and bought all my 4h livestock show animals. :bravo_2:

Sounds like a good place to buy from.
Around me the only options are imports and maybe a few Justin cowboy boot offerings.

Theres a boot barn somewhere,  but my brother shops there and you don't even get the box.
Call me crazy but I'm not buying a new pair if boots without the box.

Unfortunately I have small funky feet. I have to try boots on before buying, especially for a guy who has difficulty making decisions.

I have noticed Thorogood seems to be catching on and growing their sales network. In the last 2 years local to me (50 mi. radius) 3 dealers started carrying them,
