Mini Rockwell vari-speed drill press - a rare little unit
« on: August 14, 2018, 09:40:25 PM »
I finally was able to get the vari-speed on this little guy fixed. It just needed a replacement adjusting screw in the head.

Rockwell sold these drill presses in the 1970's and they were a great tool for small drilling jobs. They were infinitely adjustable from 600-2800 RPM and were very popular with hobby machining and electrical work. The quill is tight, with almost no runout; which allows for very precise drill bit alignment. Not bad for a 30+ year old hobby press.

I used to own one in the late 70's, but sold it when I moved up to a larger press. I've been "kicking" myself for doing it ever since. So when I saw this one pop up on ebay, I jumped at it. For precise wood, plastic and metal drilling this press is ideal. When I have a small drilling job, I prefer it over any of the other drill presses in my shop.
