Picked up a vise today.
« on: September 25, 2019, 03:47:48 PM »
After my sister-in-law’s drug addict ex-husband stole my vise alone with everything else he could get his hands on, Ive been without a vise. I haven’t had a regular need for one but I don’t like not having one.

Anyway......

I ran across this Craftsman vise locally. The lady I bought it from said it was her Godfather’s and he died recently. They’re cleaning out his shop.

I paid $50 based on the pictures alone. I couldn’t risk not getting it. I’ll pick it up this weekend.

My bench is made of solid oak.

They’re throwing in the long wet stone and 3 smaller stones for free as well as these 6 blocks. I’m not exactly sure what the blocks are but I’m sure you guys can tell me.

That’s what I thought but they said they’re rigid and can’t be squeezed. I thought they might be some kind of dressing block but I can’t find anything like them when searching the web.

Fire brick.
MAGA

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, it must be electrical.

Fire brick.

I considered that, too. But I think they’re too small for that and I don’t think firebrick would be marked like this. But I don’t have a lot of experience with fire brick.

Doing a Google search, they do look like floor rubbing bricks. Looks to be quite the specialty tool.

If its light weight ...its a pumice stone. Griddle cleaning chores in restaurants.

I helped a High School buddy close up (ie clean up) a restaurant one night in exchange for all I could eat. Those were simpler days back then. :D

That would be out of place in someone’s shop or shed but I guess if that’s what they are then the guy had to keep them someplace.
