90 degree bent long handle ratchet
« on: December 23, 2019, 05:03:28 PM »
Bought at a flea market.  Thought it was interesting.  Seller didn't have a clue what it was for, but I knew because I had seen one before that I didn't buy.  I told him someone bent the ratchet and he should sell it for a discount.  Paid $10.

1/2" drive and 18" long.

No knurling on the handle either Wich tells you it's either supposed to roll in your hand during use or had a rubber grip on it that was removed.

The funny thing is that Ridgid still shows the RHFT on their site (Where I got the pic from) I'm thinking the RHFT hasn't been made in a while. If you search the pn 92202, you will see the RHFT and also what looks like an Apex pear head ratchet with the same bent handle. I think if you went and bought a 915 new today, it would have the pear head with it.

That is a nice ratchet. I can see it being useful in some situations.

Map gas, anvil, and sledge hammer to straighten it out.  I did tell the seller after all it was bent.

That would work great dropping the spare tire on a Toyota truck.

Was in my drop box at the gate, here it is, a Walden with slotted screws, 3/4" drive 20 1/2" long with another 6" for the handle.  There is no doubt that it is a factory bend.  Had to have it as I collect Walden and have never seen another.  Made an offer on E-Bay of $21.00 and scored it.

I wish to point out that several years ago, I watched Elroy heat and bend a chrome 1/2 Crafty ratchet to 45 degrees with no damage to the chrome (Picture previously posted). Maybe Elroy had the temperature just right but the chrome went along for the ride with zero cracking or flaking. Granted in was not a full 90 degree bend but the modification yielded zero flaws in the chrome other than some color change.

Granted that full 90 degree bend was likely performed prior to finish. Elroy simply wishes to point out that heat assisted bends are possible while retaining chrome plate integrity.
