No shop is complete without an office....
« on: May 07, 2024, 07:59:56 PM »
Located in my basement, just a short distance from my machine shop. It's generous size 12' by 30' and comfortable setting. Here's a picture of my Hamilton Drafting table.. That still receives lots of action today for drawing part prints, buildings, or laying out machinery. The drafting machine in on the left with an aluminum and clear blades. On the far top RH side is my trusty 1955 Machinist's Handbook,, Bible we'd call it. Left are circle and elliptical templates. Circle and beam Compasses for large circles. Triangles 30-60-90 degree along with a French Curve. Square root, Trig tables, and die maker's Radius Charts. Of course a slide rule and scales. Mechanical pencils in three different lead hardness. Horse hair drawing brush, spare leads, and sharpener..  Electric eraser & shield.. All that's needed. And old the school calculator..The slide ruler...

I started using a "T" Square and triangles 65 years ago. After a few years I purchased a K&E arm machine. Then graduated to a K&E track machine. We called the paper Velumm that you'd make blue prints from.

Sitting across from the drafting table is table desk used for spreading out drawings, etc. Along with my printer scanner and other catch alls.... Along with a two drawer file cabinet. Gram scale and lighted magnifier on top...

This is my double pedestal desk that has my computer monitor, mouse, and keyboard. My work station...

This is a roomy lounge area where I entertain friends using the round table and chairs..

Like the rest of my shop. A fire extinguisher by the door...

Very nice! I'd add a bar in that little lounge and it would be perfect

I`d expect to see a pipe cradle on that desk.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

A very cozy room, am surprised by the abscence of artwork.  Bare walls begging for prints of brass era cars, or art deco advertizing posters.  The chairs and couch with their diamond pleated upholstery very reminiscent of the type used in the brass era.

Perfect setup. I loved mechanical drafting. I particularly liked the artistic aspect of the work and the tools used to create. Beautiful space for sure.
You boys better hold on cause I'm gonna have to stand on it!

Love the decor. The furniture reminds me very much of a steak restaurant cigar lounge I used to frequent back in the day. After dinner you could relax with a drink and cigar in beautiful leather chairs, sofas and recliners and the walls were mahogany wood paneling.

Love your place OGC!

Thanks gentlemen. I purchased that furniture 40 years ago and have come to appreciate their timeless style and quality. The pedistal and table desk along with the round table are from Stickley. The red leather couch, four chairs, and swivel executive desk chair are from Hickory Furniture.

As per a member's suggestion, I hung up a dozen pictures that I had stored away...

You wont find a pipe cradle nor ashtray anywhere in my house or garages. In fact all the manufacturing plants I was in charge of were all smoke free... I never promote any smoking habit and never indulged myself. Heck I gave out Bubble-Gum Cigars when each of my children were born..

A 30-year-old smoker can expect to live about 35 more years. Whereas a 30-year-old non-smoker can expect to live 53 more years. That's from reliable studies. But that's an average. Winston Churchill lived to 90 and smoked cigars most all his waking hours. Then again I lost two bosses from lung cancer before they reached 57 years old.

No alcoholic bar either. In fact you wont find any drink stronger the sparkling grape juice in my house. No there no religious reason behind my absences of drinking and smoking. Simply followed in my parents footsteps...

Smoking definitely isn't good for your health. And nothing wrong with not imbibing in those vices.
