Neat old motor

Didn`t think they made electric motors?
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

We had some old 20hp 480v3p vertical Allis Chalmers motors at one of old facilities. Looked like mushrooms. had a 25ft long drive shaft down to a submersible pump. I should have grabbed one when we demo'd the place but was too busy liberating a 540cid LeRoi nat gas motor.

What's the HP on that beastie?

But I am not surprised. A lot of the pre-war companies built everything they needed or could turn a profit on.

That is a beast.  Man we used to build some nice stuff here.

HP is likely less then you would think for its size.

AC was also into mechanical/electrical control. A couple years ago we tore a bunch or AC switch gear out of a plant that was still in service after 47 years.

If I remember correctly the last remaining part of the original AC was just bought up a few years ago, it still had the AC name and worked in oil field supply/off shore.

It amazes me that IH built as many appliances as they did, and John Deere sold bicycles.

I have a Kalmar AC forklift and it is great.  Upgraded from a 1958 Yale so features like side shift, brakes and power steering are appreciated :))

I scrapped an old motor last spring that looked much like that and as far as I knew ran just fine. It just had to go, no time to dicker and I needed the room. I felt so bad scrapping it I tell ya.
You boys better hold on cause I'm gonna have to stand on it!
