A Little Walnut Cracker
« on: October 21, 2020, 11:31:19 PM »
This had been hiding for nearly 10 yrs in one of my sheds'o'junk. Cleaning and reorganizing brought it to the surface. I'm still waiting around for the right deal on an acorn platen table to mount it to. It's basically NOS. Came from an old timer's shed before me. Said he bought it when he had a machine shop and never mounted it. Guess I'm just carrying on the legacy. Just over 200lbs of American quality.

Wilton C3 Combo 6" jaw/pipe vise. The picture really doesn't do it's size justice.

Nice. So I’m not the only one who finds tools they forgot about when they clean up

I'm getting bad like that (is hoarder a dirty word?). I "found" this Little Giant 25lb power hammer in the back corner when I was clearing crap to park the new conex. It had been hiding longer than this vise.

Forgetting that you have a vise put away is understandable. However, forgetting you have a power hammer stashed away is.......perfectly fine. :-[

Happen to remember what you paid?
Of course they were more new but nowadays you could sell a clean C3 like that for $1k+

In the $450 range I think. The hammer is NOS as well and was $750 about 15 yrs ago before the whole hipster blacksmithing thing got out of control. In the days of $1-2/lb anvils.

Found a decent home for the C3 for the time being. Probably the most useful thing this shaper's done in the last 50 years.
