It isn't throwing money away to the general public. It is just the cost of living and being lazy in general.

What seems easy to you and me is black magic to most. Our middle daughter is shacked up with a guy who "just isn't handy" according to her. My son in law does his thing but when things need repair it is me the oldest daughter calls.

I commend you for hooking the niece up. I hope you showed her what it took to fix it so she at least knows how next time. It is obvious her dad is clueless.
