No doubt Eddie set a pace unlike no other.

But I just don't think he belongs in that band. I think for the best and tone their lyrics are to light.

Like dance the night away sounds like something that could come out of Grease.

  Van Halen tried to not be a forgettable hair band  in a few ways and they did stand out.  Like the Scorpions.  But VH went to soft pop rock and ballads and nearly heavy metal Broadway show crap.  Aiming for that bigger easy to offend market and they got it.  For a while.  After 5150 and the DL Roth exit mess began the greatest guitarist debates among my group in HS and I was just grateful Sammy wasn't trying out for Cats and actually singing like a rock star should.
    By then I think Eddy VH was on side projects already.  Slash was not out of GnR a year when his first side project was availsble.

I saw Van Halen 2 years ago, DLR couldn't sing a note but he still had stage presence and was jumping at 60 something years old. Eddie was Eddie and was awesome. Van Halen was never a hair band it was a party band, good times, eat drink and be merry.

I was just in the store waiting in line and hootie and the blowfish was playing. I forgot just how much I really dislike that cacophony. I swear every song he sings sounds exactly the same and it's just agony listening to it. Just my luck no one came over the loudspeaker during that whole thing to break up that awful din.

I was never a music aficionado,  just give me a beat to bang my head and I was happy.  Couldn't tell you who did a lot of the songs I liked and rarely could understand the lyrics.  But Mama and I still like to dance and will normally be the first on the dance floor.

As to disco,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yuk, never liked it and still don't.  Have little use for country or western

I don't mind some rap as long as it isn't vulgar, which of course limits it quite a bit.  I have really taken to contemporary Christian music.  Some of it really rocks like this one
