Stainless Steel repair.
« on: September 16, 2020, 05:58:21 AM »
I have this electric kettle that needs repair. The spout came apart from the body.I'm not sure what would work best?

Being stainless I don't think solder would stick to it? Would brazing be better? Or would a non toxic epoxy be best?

Yeah a new one is only $20 but that's the Pennsylvania Dutch/old school mentality coming out in me.

You can silver solder SS Tim, but given the price of silver solder and the flux needed to complete the job, I'd wager you'd spend more on the materials than a new pot.

You need to find a friend with SS tig welding skills and trade him some beers.

Buying high % silver solder/braze and flux would definitely cost more than a new kettle. But that repair wouldn't use much of it and it's good stuff to have on hand.

I think silver solder would be the best option. TIG would work but the welder better be damn good. That thin stuff is gonna walk all over the place when heated.

Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?
