Sheriffs extending expired CCW permits
« on: April 04, 2020, 09:31:22 PM »
All 17 Sheriffs in NV have agreed to extend all concealed carry permits that expire after March 10th for 120 days. If needed they will discuss extending it further. At least the Sheriffs respect our rights here.

Good on them! Why make it hard on law abiding citizens who want to do the right thing.

Most of our countys are pretty large with only 1 small and a couple of medium sized. We live in Douglas County.

It is good for 5 years here. You need to take a refresher class and range time along with another extensive background check to renew. No need for another background check when buying a gun in the 5 years.

In my county it requires renewal by the Sheriff's office every 5 years. Along with that, you have to re-submit all your CCW training/qualification certs along with your renewal application. It's a pain, but a whole lot easier than it was in the 1980s, when you had to prove "a need" to receive a permit. People don't realize that the "shall issue" laws have only been around since the early 1990s.

Back in the day, you had to submit a justification that was almost dissertation length, along with certified notary statements from an employer.  Even with all that documentation, the court could restrict your concealed carry to "job performance" only. Meaning that you could carry when working your "need based" job, but were required to be unarmed when you're off the clock at work.

Renewal in Texas just requires a background check and $100. No CEs needed. I think it should have a retake of the concealed carry course just to keep up with changes in the law. every year it seems we get new  regs.

I can be in Calif in 20 -30 minutes in several directions. The real problem is we get tons of Californians here because they come down from the mountains to shop. We like their tax money but hope they don't stay long.
