I had a serious itch but he couldn't help me so i visited the local old machine dungeon and low and behold i feel alot better.
Next week i`ll pick up my cure.

Well it`s 1940`s vintage and came off a Navy WW2 repair ship . After the ship was scrapped then my mate bought it and it's been sitting in the glorious machine storage dungeon for eons.
It's in fantastic shape but really dirty it's also complete and shows very little signs of wear almost to good to be true.
If you remember i passed the fantastic metal shear on to Oregon rock crusher . The main reasons i did that was A. lack of room and B. although this was a fantastic tool i'd hardly ever use it.
I do miss it but i'm really glad he got it.(i do have first dibs if he ever wants to see it so there's that.)
This new beasty is both a bit more space conscious and also something that i need and will use. :08:

I'm hitching up the trailer tonight and will be there to load out the doall and some of the other useless junk in your way in the morning. :-*

Jabber does love to tease us.
When I worked at Westinghouse in the late 70's many of the lathes and mills along with other machinery still had the US Navy tags with the ship names. Most were off of battleships and cruisers.
I also used to get all the machinery/industrial auction flyers and I drooled over the auctions of machinery being released from the strategic stockpiles. Brand new stuff stored since the 40's and 50's.

That is called having a bad day.
Here in Nevada those traffic control devices are called roundabouts. I have seen them called rotary up in New England but the wife has another name for them that I won't say. What do you call them in NZ?

Yes we call them roundabouts. This one occasionally tips trucks over that enter it too fast.

Well your timing is impeccable for sure as i just got back from tring to load it a 2nd time.
First time i`m thinking yeah i can do it.....NOT
2nd time i brought a mate thinking 2 blokes ... easypeasy.....NOT.
Going to try Friday if he can spare a guy and a fork lift.
Somehow the more i fiddle with it the heaver it gets?

I agree as a forklift makes life much easier when you like to buy heavy stuff. I would be lost without one and all of my material handling equipment.

I looked up the weight 774 lbs!!! no wonder my shoulders are burning.
Planning on how to move it now. Thieves stole the fuel line off his forklift .

Ok well it may be a while before i get it home so here is some pix of what it is .
These are not of the machine in question but pix found on the web.
The machine itself is a Sellers #4 drill bit grinder.

It`s such a well made and solid machine , there will definitely no chatter when grinding the bits for sure.

Well i was looking at this little one but i think i`ll wait for something man sized. What a machine. O:-)

First one I ever used was a big Carlton to drill 1-1/8 holes in big plates.

Well i got it home yesterday and today i cleaned it greased and oiled it.
Think i'm going to leave it as is , great patina really suits it.
I`ll look at the wiring tomorrow see if it needs replacing then reassemble and call it good.

Got it back together after cleaning everything and re greasing/ oiling it.
Liking the original patina for now.'
Just have to get a plug and lead.

Got it all wired up... runs like a champ.
Had me thinking about how long it's been since it ran ?
Also got a set of locking swivel casters on it so i can move it around cause of lack of space it does not have a dedicated place.

Very well done Jabber. You're giving Keith Rucker and Keith Fenner a run for their money when it comes to vintage old school machinery.
