Want to Buy Indestro Super Sockets
« on: December 20, 2018, 08:30:55 AM »
I need help in trying to complete my set of ½” drive, 12 point Indestro Super sockets. My set is complete with the exception of the following two sockets:

Indestro Super #1238; ½” drive; 12 point; 1-3/16” socket
Indestro Super #1242; ½” drive; 12 point; 1-5/16” socket

If you own or know of anyone who owns either of these two sockets please let me know how I might purchase them. I have been working on completing my socket set for a couple years, but I have not been able to acquire the two sockets listed above. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. My email address is earold@hotmail.com . Thanks! Ed

Good luck on your search. I've not seen an Indestro socket larger than 1 1/16" ever in all my years of searching.

But if nothing else my Bonney search has taught me with certain brands one has gotta be in it for the long haul if they expect to complete a set. Sometimes you get lucky! ;D

Thanks!  I don't know how many they made, but I know they did make them in those sizes if only for a short run.  I saw one, but it was not for sale.  I have five different size 12 point  1/2" drive Intestro sockets larger than 1-1/16, but I haven't had any luck finding the 2 remaining sizes I need.  The largest one I have is 1-1/2", and I don't think Indestro made any larger ones that that in 1/2" drive 12 point.  The search continues...........  Ed

the 1238 appears in the 1948 catalog No. 16
the 1242 does not.
neither the 1238 or 1242 appear in the 1959 catalog No. 20
neither appear in the 1972 catalog No. 55
the 1242 is shown in catalog No. 60 (which is actually about 1980 - not 1982)(looks like you found a page from it (either at GJ or my flickr page) in your other post.

the 1935 catalog shows 1-1/4" being the largest 1/2" drive socket available (in either chrome vanadium or in the "Master" series)

the contents list for the 1941 1/2" drive display board (104DB) only goes up to 1240 (1-1/4")

I think it's possible you may be looking for something that doesn't exist. My largest 1/2" drive SAE sockets are 1-1/4" - that was the largest SAE socket we carried in 1/2" drive other than the 36mm (47036).

I think you'd have to go up into 3/4" drive for those sizes. I don't believe I have ever posted any of the 3/4" drive pages anywhere.

(Duro Chrome's 1951 catalog No. 35M only goes up to 1-1/4" as well.)

I appreciate your input.

Indestro did make 1/2 inch drive 12 point sockets larger than 1-1/4”.  In fact, I own one Indestro Super #1246 that is 1-7/16” and one Indestro Super #1248 that is 1-1/2”, both are 12 point, 1/2 inch drive sockets.  I also own one 12 point 1/2 inch drive sockets marked Duro-Indestro #1244 that is 1-3/8”.  Photos of these 3 sockets can be seen below.   I have seen one example of the Indestro Super  1/2 inch drive 12 point 1-5/16” socket (image below), but unfortunately it was sold before I could buy it.

I know the two Indestro sockets I am looking for (#1238 1-3/16” and #1242 1-5/16”) are not common as I don’t believe they came as part of a normal set.  They were shown in the catalogs you pointed out, and they really do exist.  I hope someone can lead me to them.

Ed

well... I stand corrected.
that's news to me. as I said, we never carried any 1/2" drive sockets any larger than 1-1/4" - that's as big a size as was on the 1/2" drive boards we had in our stores. I'm a bit puzzled as to when they came out with those, as they don't show up in any of the catalogs I mentioned above.
your "Duro Indestro" socket above is late production - made between the mid-1980s and 1990 when Indestro shut down.

I found the 1/2  inch, 12 point 1-5/16” #1242 Indestro socket on Page 28 of Indestro Catalog #60 (1982) and the 1/2 inch, 12 point 1-3/16” #1238 Indestro socket on page 9 of Indestro Catalog #16 (1948).  Ed

yes... I noted that above.
Catalog No. 60 is not 1982 - I'm not sure what year it is, but it's not 1982. I have a 1982 catalog and the date is printed on the frontispiece and the front cover.
unfortunately they didn't print dates on a lot of the catalogs. the date assigned to 1948 is only because it came with a 1948 price list. the introduction inside the front cover does make 1948 a reasonable assumption, though.

I know this is an old thread, but it's very specific. And I am looking to see if there's interest in large Indestro sockets.

I have a 2270 2 3/16", is that anything interesting?

Edit: from the 1948 catalog, this looks like the largest socket they made. 3/4" square drive weighing in at 3 pounds 4 ounces! Does anyone collect the larger 3/4" sockets?
