I thought there were laws that auto makers had to make it so indy shops coild work on new vehicles ? Of course if you follow the money that law could be gone.

The only reason government was able to get involved with OBDII was because of the EPA mandates and the requirement to check emissions.  This involvement led to the general location of a standardized DLC and basic DTCs.

Just got finished talking to a neighbor. He's been looking at new vehicles and says that Fiat/Chrysler is putting the secure gateways in all of their 2019 cars and trucks. Can anyone confirm this for me please?

Had a customer who commuted likely 60 to 70 miles a day to work in an electric.  He loved it.  Liked it enough to lease another.  Now he did plug it in at work, so that was a real nice perk

Yes it is.  I knew a customer who drove a Chevy Volt and was able to do his commute with the gas engine only running because of the required minimum.
