Craftsman box find
« on: May 02, 2022, 03:55:05 PM »
It's not in the greatest condition,  but it could be worse.
I didn't need it, but was okay giving $22 for it.

The place was originally an army surplus store my dad used to go in when he was a kid, but since the owner died his kids who live out of town have sort of divided it up and can't open the place full time.

The antique store side is the one they have open now, but they said surplus side on the left will be opened up starting in June and I'm waiting for that.
Last time I was in there a few years ago my dad came along and they still had some old ww2 surplus that he said was probably there since he was a kid.
Judging by the m1928 haversack they had over in the antique side today they've probably brought prices on the old surplus way up to current  collector value but I remember there being some good stuff in there

I'm probably just going to clean it up a little and throw my miscellaneous loose 1/2" drive in it, I don't really feel like putting much time into it.

I'm just not up to it.
Maybe if the lock hasp on the latch wasn't missing I'd be more inclined to

I can respect that.

But if you'd like, send it to me and I'll do it up proud for you. Any color you want, and I'm sure I can fix the hasp. I have a gift for restoring these old work horses.

No pressure.

Thanks for the offer, I will think about it.

The problem is that once it's done up nice, it will be a waste to just toss the hodgepodge 1/2" stuff in it since I rarely use 1/2".

If it's gonna be done up nice I'd have to find something special for me to use it for or decide on somebody to gift it to and what color I think they'd like.

That's the problem with nice tool boxes - they don't stay nice unless you take care of them. My daily user boxes get that road worn look pretty quick.  :D

Plus I forgot to figure in shipping - both ways. That'll probably make it prohibitive.  :41:

Yeah.
If I could think of somebody who would just absolutely love this box if painted up in their favorite color it would be worth it, but since it's just holding my 1/2 drive stuff It's best I just leave it as is.

I found a box like yours today, Hickory, in very good condition. But the $35 asking price was too much of my lunch allowance budget. So nice ones are still out there.

Too bad mine wasn't in better condition,  but the price was reasonable enough for me to buy.
It was actually marked at $25 but theres a discount if you pay cash so it was only $22.
Goodwill around here probably would have wanted way too much for it.

They had a really light greenish box I didn't recognize that had a 1940's look to it but I don't remember why I didn't buy it.
It had a decal on it that I couldn't make out but reminded me of the old PLOMB logo as far as colors and font, I just couldn't tell what it said.
