Snap-On ratchet question
« on: October 01, 2018, 02:53:42 PM »
I was just out in the shop here at work and was talking to one of the shop guys that was spinning what looked like a Snap-on 3/8 hard handle ratchet. Turns out it was a compact 1/2 drive in a 3/8 ratchet body. I have one myself, anyway, the guy commented that the gut kit for a 1/2 drive in a 3/8 is supposedly no longer offered by Snap-on. Any experts here know the answer? That particular ratchet type is no longer offered.

I hope that is not really the truth.

I'll ask my dealer on Thursday.

I have a RKRA12DC kit that is dated 2010 that fits the LSF710 ratchet. I have heard that those kits were NLA but I don't know for sure. They had 3 different hard handle models I think, LSF710, LSF720 and LSF730

Just checked, RKRA12DC is still available, for a 20 tooth. https://store.snapon.com/-R659028.aspx

Limited parts for the LSF720A. https://store.snapon.com/-D638971.aspx?ProductName=lsf720a&IsPartsSearch=1

Nothing for the LSF730A

Its not the kit that's hard to get,  it is the faceplate that is no longer available.  Also the kits are diff for the 710 and 720.  the faceplates are diff ,  the 720 is a bit longer

He still uses the ratchet. He says one tooth on the gear is shot. He needs a new gear/drive. I did not see the drive part in the lists on the first two links, just a few related parts. I will check the model number with him this morning.

He has the LSF 720. If anyone has a source for a gut kit for this ratchet it would be greatly appreciated. This guy is a daily user and not a polisher so I know he would be quite grateful.

This is going to mean a lot to this, ordinary working man, does not use internet. Old school guy so having this daily user of his put right will really mean so much for him.

That was a really nice thing to do.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

I was so appreciative of Snapmom's generosity. I offered to gladly pay for the part and the shipping to which she declined the offer making the gesture all the more benevolent. The guy would have gladly paid handsomely to put his old favorite back right by his own words. Imagine the look when I told him this was free from a total stranger!  O:-)

Snapmom is good people.  I am thankful she chimes in when a vintage Snap on or Blue Point question is raised.  Her knowledge and collection are impressive.
