pawn shop pick in scoutdrivers back yard!
« on: November 18, 2018, 05:46:37 PM »
i sell cattle in scott's hometown and where he lived until just a few years ago. i saw  a sign for a pawn shop and pulled in. on my first stop i pulled a few things off the shelf.

the first is this snap-on 1/2 inch socket carry box. a kr-280c with a 1956 date code. no dents or rust pits, just paint wear and all of the latches or intact and working.

the second item i found was  a 6 drawer jcpenney top box with drop front. i would put it at 70's vintage and it is in very good shape. the black crinkle finish is good with just a few  chips. it is fairly heavy and the drawers show very little wear. by the looks of the drawer pulls, finish and design my best guess says it is a kennedy.

the only decent thing i found in it was an underline craftsman ruler seen in the middle drawer.

The Pennys box looks a bit like a Kennedy, but I am thinking not due to the drawer pull design.

Yup -- it's got Kennedy written all over it. Great eye Harlan!

Digging the Snappy for sure, they are built well.  Liking the grinder as well and glad it was still there.

As to the JC Penny, like it but doesn't remind me of a Kennedy at all.  Drawer layout doesn't match any Kennedy I have seen and the pulls as stated are odd for a Kennedy.

What makes it look Kennedy to me is the drawer setup, especially the wrinkle paint, then the overall appearance did and still does make me think Kennedy. That said, while Kennedy boxes have had the brushed aluminum drawer pulls that look a lot like those, those pulls look different than a Kennedy to me. Majority is saying Kennedy though so I figure I must be wrong about the design of the handles on the drawers.

Very cool finds!!  That pawn shop does a very good business back home.  Wish I could stop in more often.
