Very nice sets H&S. I’m really liking that Indestro ratchet. How is it working for you?
Thanks, it took a bit of figuring to get the smaller set how I wanted it, I had to figure out which wrenches to take out and of course I had to make the little spinner handle.

The Indestro ratchet from my grandfather works just fine and it feels good in my hand.
It's large headed and coarse toothed, but I've not really worked in many tight spaces where it would be a hindrance.
Sometimes I get the lever switched by accident but not that often.
Always lookin' to learn

So, these are my Armstrong sets...

These are the two oldest, one of which has a Bog made ratchet. Armstrong will put DOE wrenches in sets, so I am always looking for those.

This is my workbench set:

Goes up to 11/16", all vintage Armstrong but from different era's.

I have 10-20 sets that I need to take pics of for you guys.

I collect the DOE and Armstrong is a fave brand.  Never tried to make the catalog sets of the bits I find.
The concept of an inclusive tool kit from 1890 to present has changed dozens of times.

The earlier sets were far more varied than today.  We lost something along the way.

Those Armstrongs are very nice. I really like the ratchet in the set on right in the light silver box. The driver in the second pic does that lock as a driver and freewheel as an extension?

Yes, it works just like the Williams ones. Super handy. And with the sockets going up to 11/16" that set covers 90% of my needs on the bench.  O0

Me too..pretty sure I have one of those buried in some forgotten corner. If I remember correctly, it's actually a 9/32" drive piece.

Easco set with a paint handle ratchet.

This was found underneath the plastic socket holder tray. Guess we're missing a lid card here...... :-[

Pre war economy Plomb sets. No ratchet included. According to my research, Plomb offered  1/4 ratchets in 1938 4795 Plomb 1/4 sets. But, these sets shown here are most likely post 1938 , but pre war and according to the catalogs, did not include the newly offered ratchets to save costs and offer a low cost alternative.

Hi Steve. The sets are not really black, just dark green. It's a testament  to my awful  photo skills.

Smaller sets without the ratchet included were common during that time period. I have early sets from several manufacturers that don’t include ratchets.

Really hard to believe the condition of this trio. Just, super nice!
